On Wednesday mornings from March through November, Pensacola residents and visitors have the opportunity to meet the pilots of the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, affectionately known around the world as the Blue Angels. The National Museum of Naval Aviation, one of the world’s largest air and space museums, hosts the Blue Angels at 11:30 AM, Wednesdays, where the public can meet the pilots, take photos, and request their autographs. The Blue Angels Atrium features a real Blue Angels aircraft in flying formation.
Residents who appreciate and take such pride in the precision of the Blue Angels also have a predilection for engineering and industry, a great style captured by the beauty of an iron door from Jemison Window and Door. Whether you imagine your Pensacola home’s entrance decorated in wrought iron, or framed by iron doors with glass, or iron and wood, Jemison Window and Door has the expertise to make your dreams come true. Pensacola is vulnerable to hurricanes, and Hurricane Ivan devastated the area in 2004. Pensacola’s Escambia Bay Bridge, on the eastern side of the storm eyewall, was largely destroyed. The storm eliminated 58 bridge spans off the east- and west-bound bridges, and moved an additional 66, forcing the bridge to close in both directions. Three Mile Bridge, a fishing bridge that spanned the Pensacola Bay along the Phillip Beale Memorial Bridge, was also destroyed.
Luckily, Hurricane Katrina left minimal damage in her wake in 2005, but the aftermath of the extensive damage to the rest of the Gulf Coast still resulted in a massive reduction in tourism in the area that fuels Pensacola’s economy. Still, the area is rebuilding, bigger and stronger than ever, and Jemison has where we can.
